Goals

In year 2005 a contract "Organisation of metrology trainings for Albania" was signed between Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements (IRMM)  and Metrology Institute of the Republic of Slovenia (MIRS) that obligates MIRS as Contractor to proceed trainings for Albanian scientists from General Directorate of Metrology and Calibration (GDMC), Tirana, Albania.

Following mission of Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Comission, to which IRMM belongs, and IRMM’s prime objectives as well as in order to implement EU policies - in this case the activity fits into the EU support to Western Balkans - MIRS is to provide high quality technical education and training to Albanian scientist that is to be given in different fields of metrology, listed in the categories underneath.

In mass laboratory in Ljubljana trainees will study on following topics:

• verification and calibration of balances of classes I, II, III and IV
• verification and calibration of weights of classes E2 to M1
• verification and calibration of weights 500 kg to 1000 kg E2
• verification and calibration of automatic railway big balances
• verification of filling gravimetric instruments
• volumetric mass calculation of weights
• correction for air bouyancy
• uncertainity calculation in concrete measurements in the field of mass
• setting up working instructions and procedures for mass measurements
• quality assurance in mass laboratory
• how to set up a national dissemination system and how to maintain the national standard for mass

In volume laboratory in Celje trainees will study on following topics:

• calibration of standard glass vessels (pipettes, burettes) to 10 l and more
• calibration of working standards for small (up to 200 l) and big (up to 1000 l) volumes
• verification of liquid meters (water and liquids other than water)
• verification of liquid petroleum (gas) dispensers
• measurement uncertainty evaluation for volume measurements
• setting up working instructions and procedures for volume measurements
• quality assurance in the calibration laboratory for volume measurements

Means of working

The Contractor will perform the Contract to the highest professional standards with staff that have the professional qualifications and experience required for the execution of the assigned tasks.

Staff in Mass laboratory will host contemporary 2 scientists from GDMC, each for 35 working days, while staff in Volume laboratory will host contemporary 2 scientists from GDMC, each for 32 working days. In foreseen period of time scientists will be able to get know to all the topics, listed above, as appropriate. Staff of laboratory will pay a special personal attention to trainees in 30 % of their working time. The rest is intended for individual work and study of trainees.
