Accession of the Republic of Slovenia to the Metre Convention

On 15th of January 2015 the Government of the Republic of Slovenia adopted the initiative of Metrology Institute of the Republic of Slovenia for the accession of the Republic of Slovenia to the Metre Convention.
This paved the way for the Republic of Slovenia to fully participate in the Metre Convention again after 24 years, proudly joining the current 55 Member States. Metre Convention was signed already in 1875 in Paris by representatives of 17 countries.
Modified slightly in 1921, it remains the basis of international agreement on units of measurement, known today under the SI system of units.

By becoming a Member of the Metre Convention, the Republic of Slovenia will be able to equally participate in the decision making at the highest international metrological scene. Among other, Metrology Institute of the Republic of Slovenia and all Designated Institutes will be able to participate in CIPM key comparisons. Further, it would be possible to ensure direct and free of charge traceability through BIPM in the areas of mass, electrical quantities, time and frequency and ionising radiation.
